Jyväskylä Arts Festival

Jyväskylä Arts Festival from 6th to 11th July is an unforgettable interartistic urban festival! The programme consists of over 50 events: concerts, theatre without words, literature, cinema, seminars, debates, a children's programme and club evenings! Also Finncon is a part of Jyväskylä Arts Festival.

Thursday and Friday 8th to 9th July

The fifth science fiction researchers meeting: The program is mostly in Finnish.
Lectures open to public are on Friday 9th at room A103
Gwyneth Jones at 12.15 and Robin Hobb at 1.30
Fantasy dress workshop: At Kulttuuriklubi Siperia. More information will be added later.

Friday 9th -July

Meeting of Finnish Science Fiction Writers: Friday at 16.00 to 19.00 at the Writer's House, Seminaarinkatu 26 B
The Finnish Science Fiction Writers Association arranges a Writers meeting on Friday, in Kirjailijatalo. The meeting is open to everyone interested in writing. The program is partly in English. Among others, Gwyneth Jones will be speaking.
The beginning party: At restaurant Sohwi. You can't miss the great company or the Nordic table hockey contest, FinnconKampen!

Exhibitions and shows

Planetary visions art exhibition: Kimmo Isokoski has his works in the hall.
Manga Art exhibition: Animecon's Art exhibition has the works of Finnish artist, more or less inspired by Japanese culture. To take part or ask for details, please contact Anna Stenman. The works should be at the con site on Friday, or deliver by mail to Animecon/Art exhibition, Jyväskylän Kesä, Asemakatu 6, 40100 Jyväskylä, Finland. See also Finnmanga website.

There and back again: Some works from There and back again exhibition.
Blood drive promotion: We don't have a blood drive at the con site, but further information about blood drives in Finland can be found from the Heinlein society members and the Red Cross exhibition at the con.
Medieval dance show: The dance group of Maahinkainen will perform on Saturday.
MEXICO FANTASTICO: Saturday, at Ilokivi
Mexican movies have their unique visual images that reflects the history, religion, culture and politics of the country. MEXICO FANTASTICO brings forth for the first time in Finland the true heroes of Latin America, Las Luchadoras wrestlessess who defend justice, and legendary Santo. Do you want to see masked women to wrestle the atzec mummy, surreal fights in a wax museum and other confusing images you'll never see anywhere else? Welcome to Ilokivi! The films have English subtitles.
At 6pm. René Cardona: Wrestling Women vs. the Aztek Mummy / Las Luchadoras Contra La Mumia,1964
At 8 pm. Alfonso Corona Blake: Santo in the Wax Museum / Santo En El Museo De Cera,1963.
Tickets: 5 euro/film, both films for 8 euros. For adults only.
Auction: Saturday, at 16.00 in the Hall. Buy something grand from the auction, or bring your items for sale! If you want to sell, please contact the auction organiser Pasi. You can also give your sales profit to us to help Finncon and Animecon.

Parties!

Heaven and Hell masquerade: Saturday from 22.00-04.00, Two floors party in Ilokivi. You can dance at the fetish club downstairs, or chill with your mates at the upstairs sci-fi lounge. In co-operation with Bizarre Club and Jyväskylä Seta. The ticket costs 5 euros, but those in a costume pay 4 euros.
If you wish to take part in the Finncon costume contest (costume contest or performance contest), the entrance is free! The costume/performance should be inspired by science fiction or fantasy. Please note that you have to let us know in advance if you want to enter. Tell your name/groups name and your wishes for technic equipment.
FinnAniGo-party: Saturday from 19.00 to 01.00 Party with no age limit at Tanssisali Lutakko. Arranged by Tsukiai. Tickets 4 euros. With the FinnAniGo-ticket you can also enter Heaven and Hell party.

Games and competitions

Drawing contest: You can attend with any kind of pencil work. The rules are that the work has to be done during the weekend, and it has to be returned on Sunday at 11.00. The works will be put on show and the public will vote the winner!
Anime Music Video contest Yaoi.fi contest: Yaoi.fi page organises a contest of art works inspired by the anime series Gravitation.
Tossing Jordan Caber: Toss the caber made of Jordan's books! At the lawn behind the University Main building on saturday.
Dance dance revolution game: In the hall you can try this dance game all weekend. You can just try out one game, or attend a contest! More information on site.
Harry Potter-larp: On Saturday, from 10.00 to 17.00 at Kirjailijatalo. More details on the hplarp pages.
Huomenna he tulevat-larp: On Sunday, from 12.00 to 17.00 at Ilokivi. Organised by Maahinkainen. More information:

Workshops

Cat ears workshop: On saturday 10.7. from 11.00 to 15.00 at Ilokivi. You can make extra pair of furry ears to yourself. There's a material fee of 3 euros.
Drawing workshop: Sunday from 13.00 to 16.00 at Ilokivi. A manga drawing workshop in Finnish.

The Finnish Tolkien society meeting: Saturday at 17.00 in Ilokivi
Gosurori picnic: Saturday at 14.00 in the garden, or in case of rain at Ilokivi. A Picnic for everyone interested of Japanese Gosurori/EGL culture and fashion. Dress in your most wonderful lace ruffle dress and enjoy the company of other gosurori people. Take you own tea or juice mug and something to eat to share with others. Because of possible bad weather, we will meet at the hall and go to the picnic place from there.
